LAS VEGAS, NV (Autodesk University 2014 -The Kenguru electric car designed and built for handicapped individuals by a small company is my choice for best in show. The vehicle allows people in wheelchairs better mobility and the ability to drive themselves.
The design was done using Autodesk Inventor software and Dell computers. They have built a working prototype that allows one individual per vehicle. The individual can load himself or herself into the car. It is not highway legal but it allows for better mobility by any handicapped person confined to a wheelchair. It can allow someone to run up to the store by themselves, for instance, and can reach speeds of 25 MPH and go up to 60 miles between charges. CEO, Stacy Zoern, a motorized wheelchair user, was eager to improve mobility options. Setting out to create a handicapped-accessible vehicle, Zoern wanted to make it not only easy to enter, but also easy to drive.
Kenguru is taking orders for its electric car now, with production to start in 2015.
