STAYTON, Oregon, August 2, 2009 - We had only 50 miles left to ride for the MS150 ride today. The forecast said it would be cooler. But that turned out to be a lie. Temperatures got up to 90 degrees.
Highlights:
- A long gradual climb up to the entrance to Silver Falls State Park. Call me wierd but I love a long climbs where I can get maintain a rhythm and work up a good sweat.
- Hitting 30mph in a paceline with Grant, Brian and Shawn. These guys can fly! I can't remebmer a better paceline and it gave me a glimpse of what the pros must feel like.
The day unfolds with a sky that should have been savored but we were in a hurry to get going.
A few less of us line up for the start of Sunday's 55 mile
ride: victims of schedules and the grueling 100 mile ride yesterday.
Author RT rides for Greg Drown,
William (Bill) Foss, Michael H, Lauris Hawley, Mrs. George McAdam and John
Roberts.
We lose Patrick early after an encounters a pothole. He had some
cuts and scrapes but otherwise fine.
Brian (left), me, and Shawn, all smiles after the day's longest climb, a
gradual ascent to about 1500 ft.
After hours in the saddle and the temperature now near 90, even little
rollers are an effort.
The fast pack, Brian (left), co-captain Grant and Shawn are
glad it's all over.
A handwritten "thank you" from Merilee, who suffers from MS.
